Snapshots
Snapshot technology is used as part of our Continuous Data Protection solution. By installing host agents on all hosts (virtual and physical), and setting appropriate snapshot schedules, clients are able to specify both their Recovery Point Objectives and data retention policies for hands-off data protection and recovery.
Snapshots use byte level differencing to significantly reduce network traffic and disk space, driving cost efficiencies with up to 255 recovery points per volume. Snapshots are replicated across the LAN to a locally installed CDP Server (within a MicroPod). The CDP Server de-duplicates the already small snapshots and replicates them to the cloud at 90% efficiency. This results in a tenfold reduction in WAN traffic during replication meaning that you can maintain smaller Recovery Point Objectives at less connectivity costs.
Additionally, snapshots provide powerful local recovery capabilities. Individual files or data can be recovered in seconds. Entire hosts can be restored into a virtual environment in under 15 minutes.
By setting appropriate snapshot and retention schedules you can provide years of historical data protection with small amounts of incremental storage.
